What will you learn?

Through knowledge development and practical training, the PADI Open Water Diver course teaches you the basics of diving and how to stay safe.  The course consists of three main parts: 

  • Knowledge Development (through online eLearning or bookwork) to understand the basic principles and theory of scuba diving

  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills in a pool or shallow, confined water 

  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore the underwater environment!

What will your schedule look like?

  • Online homework which is fun and informative self guided learning online (approx. 15 hours)

  • A one-day classroom and pool session (8:30am-5:30pm).

    • This full day begins at In2Deep for the class session and then heads to the Santa Monica Swim Center, located at Santa Monica College

  • 4 Open Water Checkout dives done in the ocean on two separate days

What will you need?

Before jumping in the water, you must have:

  • Completed the PADI RSTC Medical Form (see “Forms” below)

  • Completed the Knowledge Reviews & Quizzes for each section in the PADI Open Water eLearning

  • Purchased your snorkeling gear (ie. mask, snorkel, fins, booties and gloves (and though optional, hoods are recommended) Ask about our student discount!

  • Transportation to/from In2Deep, Santa Monica Swim Center, and the Catalina Express/Dive Boat Docks

Parking, meals, drinks, hotel accommodations and gratuities are not included.

What will In2Deep Provide?

  • eLearning (online homework)

  • Scuba Gear Rental during the course (ie. BCD, Wetsuit, Regulator with computer, tanks & weights)

  • 2 Round Trip Boat Tickets

  • Temporary DAN (Divers Alert Network) Dive Insurance which is good for 180 days from registration or through your Open Water training whichever comes first

  • 1 PADI Scuba Diver Certification

  • 1 PADI Open Water Certification

  • A full retail shop to ensure you have all the equipment and accessories you need

Who can take this course? 

To be able to take this course, you must be:

  • 10 years or older

  • In good physical and mental health 

  • Must know how to swim
